Hot Toddler Trend: Dress Your Kid Like Suri for the Holidays

Wanna dress your child like the world's trendiest tot?

Suri Cruise, daughter of Katie Holmes and Tom Cruise, hit the Jacadi children's boutique in Boston recently, picking up a striped sweater dress, striped sweater and pleated skirt from the brand's "Sur les Flots" collection, along with dresses in pale pink and red velvet from the the French retailer's new holiday collections.

And speaking of holiday, ParentDish asked Peggy Waldo, director of Jacadi USA, what's hot this season.

"The strongest holiday trends for kids put a fresh, modern spin on authentic and timeless classics," she says. "A short-sleeve dress turns up in gray flannel; a red velvet jumper is accented with oversized buttons and, instead of white, blouses turn up in cheerful Liberty prints."

Prices for Jacadi range from $28 for a white cotton onesie to $278 for a classic duffel coat.

Barbie Palm Beach Sugar Daddy Ken is a Real Doll

The new Ken doll is beyond fabulous. Credit: Mattel Inc.

Barbie and Ken have come a long way since they first came out. But is Ken ready to, um, come out in a different way?

The Internet is all abuzz with news of the Barbie Palm Beach Sugar Daddy Ken Doll. Retailer Entertainment Earth is taking preorders for the doll, scheduled for release in April 2010.

Indeed.

A word of explanation -- in this case, the phrase Sugar Daddy does not refer to the candy bar. Urban Dictionary describes the term thusly: "A man (usually older and well-off) who financially supports a younger woman (or man) in exchange for sex and companionship.

Who is America's Most Stylish Blogger?

Moms get a bad reputation when it comes to fashion, but one Oregon mother is casting her chapeau in the ring for the title of America's Most Stylish Blogger.

The contest, hosted by our sister site StyleList, kicked off this week with eight women vying for the top honor. These brave souls all took the same clothing item -- a navy gabardine boyfriend vest -- and dressed it up or down according to their own personal style.

For the next few weeks, style guru Kelly Cutrone, owner of People's Revolution and co-star of MTV's reality shows "The Hills" and "The City," will judge the ladies' looks. We're rooting for Carly J. Cais, an Oregon mom and fashion blogger who daringly paired blue tie-dye leggings with the vest. Cais admitted that the look was a risk, and it didn't win her any points with Cutrone -- the fashion guru said she didn't dislike the outfit, but she didn't like it, either.

Click here to watch the video challenge on StyleList>>>>>>>>>

We can't wait to see what else Cais has in store. Tune in and pick up some fashion pointers; don't be That Mom who grocery shops in her ratty old sweats. (And please keep it on the down low when you see us dressed in said sweats.)

Stop! Don't Touch My Baby!

All new moms are warned about the dangers of germs when it comes to their newborn babies.

We're told to get flu shots; make sure everyone who touches baby washes his or her hands first; and to avoid taking newborns to church, restaurants, the mall or anywhere he's in danger of catching a cold, flu or worse.

But this year, the threat of swine flu has everyone on infection-control overdrive, and, as a Utah ABC news station reports, some moms are taking germ control to the max.

One Utah mom keeps people from touching her newborn triplets with Hands off Baby stop signs that can be hung from infant carriers warning, "Wash hands before touching baby."

Germ-phobes can also buy don't-touch-me bibs, onesies, T-shirts and more, in hopes of keeping baby-loving strangers from getting too close.

Would you buy any of these stop signs?

Miley Cyrus' 9-Year-old Little Sis Gets Halloween All Wrong

Noah Cyrus, 9, dressed for Halloween. Juan Rico, Fame Pictures

When we saw this photo of Noah Cyrus, teen sensation Miley Cyrus' 9-year-old little sis, in an extremely sexualized Halloween getup, we just gasped.

Dlisted, who published the photo, calls for a slap on papa Billy Ray Cyrus' wrists.

Little Cyrus vamped it up for Jamie Lee Curtis' Halloween party -- Curtis was dressed as Mother Nature, according to Dlisted -- but sadly, this grade-schooler turned heads for all the wrong reasons.

What do you think?

Tween Wants Sexy Halloween Costume

Dear AdviceMama:

My daughter is 10 years old and wants to be a fair maiden for Halloween. She fell in love with a costume in a catalog two months ago and insists it was meant for her. She's dreamt about it, talked about it and has even shown it to all her friends.

The problem is, her dad feels it's too sexy and is refusing to buy it. It's also expensive, and we really can't afford it.

She is heartbroken and has been having fits, tantrums and doing everything under the sun to get us to give in. What should we do?

Signed, Unhappy at Halloween

Dear Unhappy at Halloween:

Mother Nature was very wise in designing children. Their size (small) and stature (dependent) ensure that they are bound to experience frustration on a daily basis. What better way to master a skill than to get lots of practice?

As painful as it is to watch our children suffer when they can't have what they want, if we want them to grow up to be happy, resilient adults, we need to help them manage their feelings when life doesn't go their way.

There are only two outcomes to frustration. One is adaptation and the other is aggression.

School Says No to Yearbook Photo of Gay Girl in Tux

Ceara Sturgis, 17, just wanted to be comfortable, so the gay teen donned a tux for her traditional senior portrait -- the portrait her school district has now said they won't print in the school yearbook.

Sturgis' mom, Vanessa Rodriguez, told the Clarion-Ledger that she was told her daughter's picture will not appear in the yearbook because of her choice of clothing. Considering the yearbook is for the kids -- rather than the school -- Rodriguez said she can't understand why her daughter can't wear what she wants.

She's the star of Disney's hit series "Wizards of Waverly Place." She's starred in television movies like "Princess Protection Program" and "Another Cinderella Story." She's also a singer, model, Kids' Choice Awards winner and UNICEF spokesperson.

And, now, Selena Gomez can add fashion designer to her ever-growing resume.

The 17-year-old is set to launch Dream Out Loud by Selena Gomez in fall 2010, reported Women's Wear Daily.

"Growing up in Texas, I was sort of close-minded and kind of a tomboy, but as I've traveled, I found such a love of clothes," Gomez told WWD. "It's really always been a dream of mine to have a line."

The report says the line, aimed at teens, will have a pretty, bohemian flavor. Look for tie-dye and denim leggings (or jeggings), floral printed blouses, shrunken blazers, cardigans, hoodies and mini skirts.

A retailer -- and prices -- have yet to be determined, but other teen stars -- including Disney peer Miley Cyrus -- have had success with mass retailers like Wal-Mart.

Designer Louboutin Says Barbie's Arches Are Too Fat

Credit: Joseph Kaczmareka, AP

Shoe designer Christian Louboutin is giving Barbie a makeover, an honor bestowed on other fashionistas in the past. But it seems that Barbie has fat ankles. Or arches. Or something.

All heck broke loose this week when Women's Wear Daily reported that a Louboutin spokesperson said that the French designer "found [Barbie's] ankles were too fat." In other words, Barbie has cankles.

Yes. Cankles. On a doll.

Then "Louboutin's people" backtracked, saying that it was Barbie's arches, not her ankles, that were too large, according to the New York Daily News.

Whatever he meant, we think it's safe to say that Barbie is many things, and none of them is fat.

Personal Shopping for Babies is Big in Britain

When it comes to shopping, some moms spare no expense to style their tots. Credit: jupiterimages

From the you've got to be kidding me files: Apparently, there are parents in England who are so rich and style-conscious that hiring personal shoppers for babies is de rigueur.

According to a recent story in the U.K.'s Daily Mail, high-end department stores, such as Harrods and Harvey Nichols, are seeing a boom in requests for kiddie personal shopping services. But don't think you can jump on the bandwagon so fast. The one offered at Harrods is booked until next year.

"One client recently came in for her baby daughter and left with an £8,000 wardrobe," a Harrods personal shopper told the Daily Mail. The minimum spending fee there for kids and babies? A cool £2,500, which translates here to $4,061. So the £8,000 shopper spent some $13,000.

These personal shoppers say even toddlers are already honing their wardrobe looks.

Seriously, 5-year-old fashionistas?

"Even when they're as young as three, they often have a strong opinion on their style -- especially the girls," one of the Harvey Nichols personal shoppers told the Mail.

Just wait until they become teenagers.

Suri Cruise Sparkles in Her Silver Heels

It's quite common for parents to influence their kid's style, but a mini fashion plate making Mom and Dad more hip? Well, to do that, you've pretty much gotta be named Suri Cruise.

Suri, 3, and her oh-so-stylish parents, Katie Holmes and Tom Cruise, were photographed traipsing around Boston this week -- Holmes and Cruise in matching plaid shirts, Suri in a pink ruffled dress and her now famous sparkly silver kitten heels.

A story on ABCnews.go.com says it appears Suri is her mom's fashion muse. After all, Holmes, who launched a fashion line with Hollywood stylist Jeanne Yang, told British newspaper The Sun: "It has been my dream forever to be in fashion and I'm truly inspired by my daughter, Suri. She just loves dressing up."

The price of dressing up? The Sun claimed Suri's wardrobe is valued at more than $3.5 million. That's a lot of sparkly high heels.

ABCNews.com, quoted Cruise's rep, Jeff Raymond who said, "This report is ridiculous, and simply not true."
